The Ground Zero Hospital Prepares for the Fifth Anniversary of September 11, 2001
Less than five blocks away from Ground Zero, Downtown Hospital was the first hospital to respond to the World Trade Center attack of September 11, 2001. The Hospital earned international recognition for its extraordinary response to the tragedy when it cared for more than 1,500 people injured in the attack and its aftermath. In recognition of the most extensive disaster response ever undertaken by a hospital, the Mayor of New York proclaimed March 11, 2002 as “Downtown Hospital Day.”
To commemorate the Fifth Anniversary of September 11, 2001, Downtown Hospital is spearheading the following events:
