A Vital Resource for a Vital Community
The Wellness & Prevention Center's objective is disease prevention and the maintenance of optimum health for all in the community. The most advanced diagnostic and screening tools will be used to develop individual assessments and treatment plans to prevent or reduce the severity of disease. Access to excellent primary care is essential to long-term health, and New York Downtown Hospital's unique facility and programs will be the right answer for patients when early detection and intervention can affect outcome.
Health Screening Program
Each patient will have a preliminary work-up performed by a Primary Care physician. Trained in a broad range of disease types, physicians will complete a formal medical history and perform a comprehensive physical. Testing will follow evidence-based clinical protocols that are age and gender specific. Clinical findings will be developed into individual patient medical profiles with customized risk assessments and recommended treatment plans.
The Women's Health Center
At the Women's Health Center, specialists focus on the prevention and early detection of disease, and develop personalized recommendations for a healthy lifestyle. They provide gynecologic evaluation, early cancer detection and follow-up. Specialists also develop management plans for incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, chronic pelvic pain, and menopause. Screening for osteoporosis is also available.
The Breast Center
The Breast Center provides the entire spectrum of breast care services, comprising digital mammography, ultrasound, MRI, minimally invasive biopsy techniques, state of the art surgical services for benign and malignant disease of the breast including reconstruction by a dedicated reconstructive surgeon if needed, and consultative second opinion services. For women facing increased risk of breast cancer, screening programs are available to aid in early detection. Risk factors are identified (family history, life style, etc.) and, where possible, are reduced as part of a prevention program. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians and allied health professionals meets regularly to discuss patient treatment plans.
Cardiovascular Health Center
The Moody’s Foundation Center for Cardiovascular Health focuses on the prevention of heart and vascular disease through early identification, as well as implementation of therapeutic lifestyle changes and risk factor modification. The Center will provide cardiovascular risk assessment through a variety of non-invasive methods, as medically indicated. Cardiac specialists at the Center have access to the latest clinical equipment to perform detailed lipid analysis, state-of-the-art 4-D echocardiography, and 64 slice cardiac computed tomography angiography for the early detection of sub-clinical heart disease. A full range of stress testing modalities are also available.
Putting Patients First
In line with the core value of Patient First at New York Downtown Hospital, the Wellness & Prevention Center will strive to consistently deliver prompt, efficient, convenient, and courteous access to quality physicians.
Centralized, Non-Institutional Approach
The Center is designed for the convenience of the patient. Each patient will be greeted by their own personal facilitator, who will serve as a guide throughout their visit. The facilitator will escort the patient and be available to eliminate delays and answer questions. Appointments will be scheduled through a Central Call Center to maximize efficiency and reduce waiting times.
Screening Coordinated with the Treatment for the Patient
The reduction of health risk factors is not only achieved by accurate diagnosis, but also by excellent, timely and appropriate treatment. Patients will always have a trusted physician, and will never be left to confront their health issues without guidance and support.
