Wellness and Prevention A Vital Resource for a Vital CommunityThe Wellness and Prevention Center's objective is disease prevention and the maintenance of optimum health for all in the community. The most advanced diagnostic and screening tools will follow evidence-based protocols which result in individual assessments and treatment plans to prevent or reduce the severity of disease. Access to excellent primary care is essential to long-term health, and New York Downtown Hospital's unique facility and programs will be the right answer for patients when early detection and intervention can affect outcome. Health Screening Program Each patient will have a preliminary work-up performed by a Primary Care physician. Trained in a broad range of disease types, physicians will complete a formal medical history and perform a comprehensive physical. Testing will follow evidence-based clinical protocols that are age and gender specific. Clinical findings will be developed into individual patient medical profiles with customized risk assessments and recommended treatment plans. Dr. Warren Licht, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, leads the Center's screening and wellness services. The Women's Health Center At the Women's Health Center, specialists in women's healthcare will provide a broad range of women's medical services including, but not limited to: early cancer detection and follow-up; incontinence; pelvic organ prolapse and chronic pelvic pain; general gynecological evaluation and menopause management; breast imaging and health; and osteoporosis. Dr. Allan Klapper, Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, leads the Women's Health Center. Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center The Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center will be focused on the prevention of heart and vascular disease through early identification, as well as implementation of therapeutic lifestyle changes and risk factor modification. The Center will provide cardiovascular risk assessment through a variety of non-invasive methods, as medically indicated. Cardiac specialists at the Center have access to the latest clinical equipment to perform detailed lipid analysis, state-of-the-art 4-D echocardiography, and 64 slice cardiac computed tomography angiography for the early detection of sub-clinical heart disease. A full range of stress testing modalities are also available. Dr. Atul Sharma, Chief, Division of Cardiology, at New York Downtown Hospital, leads the Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center. Putting Patients First Fully in line with the core value of Patient First at New York Downtown Hospital, the Wellness and Prevention Center will strive to consistently deliver speed, efficiency, convenience, courtesy, and access to quality physicians. Centralized, Non-Institutional Approach The Center is designed for the convenience of the patient. Each patient will be greeted by their own personal facilitator, who will serve as a guide throughout their visit. The facilitator will escort the patient and be available to eliminate delays and answer questions. Appointments will be scheduled through a Central Call Center to maximize efficiency and reduce waiting times.
