New York Downtown Hospital Celebrates Chinese New Year
The celebration of the arrival of the Chinese Lunar Year 4707 – the Year of the Ox – begins on Chinese New Year’s Eve, Sunday, January 25 at New York Downtown Hospital. A special gourmet meal featuring traditional Chinese New Year dishes with auspicious names will be available for inpatients. There will also be another special meal on Chinese New Year’s Day available for patients and staff. The special meal is an expression of the Hospital’s commitment to the highest quality service for our patients.
New York Downtown Hospital will also celebrate the arrival of the first Chinese New Year Baby. Hospital administration and staff will visit the parents and offer their congratulations.
The official celebration of Chinese New Year at Downtown Hospital will be held on Wednesday, February 4, the tenth day of the Chinese New Year, at 2:30 pm in the Hospital Cafeteria. Leadership from Chinese community organizations, friends of the Hospital and staff will gather together to enjoy the Lion Dance performance by Wan Chi Ming Hung Gar Institute and singing and dancing by the children from the Brooklyn-Chinese American Association Head Start Program. The festivities will also include a performance of Chinese acrobatics, a demonstration of Chinese calligraphy, a photo opportunity with “God of Fortune,” and a roast pig cutting ceremony.
The New Year is a celebration of change and an opportunity to renew Downtown Hospital’s commitment to serve the Chinese community. It has become a tradition at New York Downtown Hospital to celebrate the Chinese New Year with the community.
