Pathology encompasses the study of disease and how different disease states have an effect on individual cells, tissue and entire organ systems. Laboratory and tissue studies are the cornerstone of disease investigation and diagnosis.
The New York Downtown Hospital Department of Pathology provides comprehensive laboratory and tissue studies including Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology.
The Department is staffed by highly respected and trained physicians who are board certified in pathology and qualified laboratory technologists. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation that allows it to keep abreast of the latest scientific and clinical developments.
The Pathology Department has a long history of successful laboratory inspections and full accreditation status by the Joint Commission, the New York State Department of Health, the American Association of Blood Banks and the Food and Drug Administration.
The Department has a commitment to patient safety with established quality assurance programs in Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology and Pathology. All patient information generated by the Pathology Department is classified as confidential and will only be released to authorized individuals designated by the patient.
