The Breast Center provides the entire spectrum of breast care services, comprising routine mammography and diagnostic studies, minimally invasive biopsy techniques, state of the art surgical services for benign and malignant disease of the breast including reconstruction by a dedicated reconstructive surgeon if needed, and consultative second opinion services. For women facing increased risk of breast cancer, screening programs are available to aid in early detection. Risk factors are identified (family history, life style, etc.) and, where possible, are reduced as part of a prevention program. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians and allied health professionals meets regularly to discuss patient treatment plans.

Robbi Kempner, M.D.

Dr. Kempner is the Director of the Breast Center. She is board certified in General Surgery and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell College of Medicine. Dr. Kempner received her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed her residency in surgery at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in New York City and Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. The major focus of Dr. Kempner’s practice is the management, treatment, and surgery for benign and malignant disorders of the breast. She is also an expert in image guided breast biopsy and oncologic breast surgery.

Dr. Kempner brings a wealth of clinical experience to New York Downtown Hospital, from her years of practice at several major New York academic medical centers. Dr. Kempner is the Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at New York Downtown Hospital.

Dr. Kempner believes that the care of the patient extends beyond surgery. She provides complete care for her patients’ medical and emotional needs.
