As a board certified general surgeon, and Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery, as well as a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons I have dedicated my career to the early detection and state of the art treatment of breast cancer and breast disease.
Areas of special surgical interest include lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, skin sparing and nipple sparing mastectomy. Particular interests also include a strong focus on multidisciplinary care, closely coordinating care with reconstructive surgeons and oncologists as necessary, leading a team approach to care at NYDH. As surgery for breast cancer has become less radical, and treatment is multifaceted, a coordinated approach to care is important.
Working with patients and determining their risk of breast cancer is an area that I focus on so the patient can understand her personal risk based on family history and life style. If necessary, additional testing is provided, including genetic testing, so any disease can be identified at the earliest stage. This leads to better outcomes and faster recovery. Including the emotional and social aspects of care, is something I strive for. since physical and emotional healing go hand in hand.
Helping educate women about breast disease, I lecture frequently at community groups, houses of worship, and various companies in the tri-state area.
