Patients of our New York Ambulatory Surgery unit can be confident in receiving the highest level of professional care. With ambulatory surgery, which is also known as outpatient surgery, patients are discharged on the day of their procedure. Patient care within the Ambulatory Surgery Unit at New York Downtown Hospital (NYDH) is provided by a talented team that includes: registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, operating room technicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and residents. Our hospital-based, New York Ambulatory Surgery Unit is part of a full-service Surgical Center which features a Preoperative Testing Unit, six modern operating rooms, and a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. These dedicated surgical areas are for ER, same-day, and major surgery patients, who are prepared for their procedures by a highly qualified nursing staff. Each month, hundreds of inpatient and ambulatory surgeries are performed within multiple specialties, including obstetrics and gynecology, orthopaedics and ophthalmology.
A Caring Environment at New York Downtown Hospital Ambulatory Care Center
Elective surgery patients benefit from a caring environment at New York Downtown Hospital’s Ambulatory Care Center. The staff members in Ambulatory Services take a patient-centered approach to every phase of care, from preoperative to post-operative. The most technologically sophisticated equipment is at the disposal of surgeons and team members, and the facilities are designed for patient and family comfort. Preoperative testing is completed in a special unit before surgery. Patients make an appointment for routine laboratory tests, x-rays, or electrocardiograms, as ordered by their surgeons. They may also sign consent forms for receiving anesthesia at this time. On the day of the surgery, accomplished perioperative nurses manage patient care before, during and after the procedure. Surgical excellence is provided in a comfortable and caring atmosphere at the NYDH Ambulatory Care Center in Manhattan.
